How to remove unwanted browser search engines and toolbars.

There are a lot of toolbars and search engines out there which integrates to our browser with out permission.

Basically these toolbars always comes along with software downloaded from any unverified site , sometimes these toolbars are installed on closing any popup or advertisement.

These toolbars are technically not a virus, but they do exhibit plenty of malicious traits, such as rootkit capabilities to hook deep into the operating system, browser hijacking, and in general just interfering with the user experience. The industry generally refers to it as a “PUP,” or potentially unwanted program.

These toolbars once installed on your computer, they will hijack your browser homepage and replace your default search engine.Futhermore, these programs will display ads and sponsored links in your search results, and may colect search terms from your search queries.

You can get rid of these unwanted programs by following these steps


Step 1: Uninstall the toolbars from the Control Panel

The problem with these toolbars is that most of these do not have their actual name in the list.
So in this case you need to remove any suspected software that you might not have installed and that looks similar to these browser toolbars

Scroll down the list and remove the appropriate programs  :

Babylon : Babylon, Babylon toolbar on IE, Yontoo, BrowserProtect and any other programs related to Babylon LTD.

Delta Search : Uninstall Delta Chrome Toolbar, Delta toolbar, BitGuard, BrowserProtect

Ask : Uninstall Ask Toolbar, Ask Toolbar Updater, Ask  Updater

Besides these also uninstall any suspected , unknown software . 
 

Step 2 :  Clean Your Browser 

In Firefox remove the search engine from the Manage Search Engine Option.

In Google Chrome Go to Settings > Search section and click on Manage Search Engines

Next thing is to remove these toolbars whenever you open a new tab. For this you have to delete add-ons in firefox and google chrome.

In Firefox you can type about:addons directly or from theicon in the right most select Add-ons
Go to the extension bar and remove any unwanted toolbar

In Chrome you can type chrome://extensions/  or from theicon in right most , go to settings and then to extension.
Remove the toolbar from here.

Also you need to change your homepage settings.

In Firefox got to Tools > Options > General

In Chrome go to Settings

From the On startup section remove the toolbar url [delta search in this case] from the specific page list.

May be you all have done this sometimes to secure your browser but these toolbars will keep coming back if you do not follow all of these steps

Step 3: Correct Target address for Shortcuts.

These toolbars append their website on the browser's target field in shortcut, so when ever you click to open
your browser from the taskbar or from desktop icon.. they open along with the search engine url.
Your target must be simple and direct to the browser location on your hard drive and nothing more.

You can see that the Target field has value 

"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://www.delta-homes.com/?type=sc&ts=1402673653&from=wpm0612&uid=HitachiXHTS543216L9A300_090814FBC2005CENWULAX 

Rather it should be upto just "chrome.exe"

"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

Similarly for Firefox, make sure the target specified is correct for the shortcuts.

The above properties of Firefox shortcut is correct. Make sure that your shortcut also points to the just Firefox.exe on your computer.

Step 4: Reset your Browser to default.

Every browser has a feature to be able to reset to the default state thus removing all the toolbars , extension and plugins.
This also deletes your browser settings and resets the browser to the initial configuration. During this step your browser settings and bookmarks are backed up in a folder on your desktop.

To reset Firefox press ALT key . This gives you the default browser options . Click on Help and then Troubleshooting Information or you can simply type about:support

To reset Chrome

Go to settings and then click on advance settings

Reset Browser settings, is the last option in this.

Step 5: Regedit : Hardest But Final Blow !!!

Some toolbars are designed so good that they can easily resist all of the above steps . Removing the toolbar's entry from the registry is the best way to get rid of it.

In start type regedit or Go to run and type regedit.

All the values and data for these toolbars are in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE . Click on this to select only this section and press CTRL+F to FIND

You can choose value and data but its safe to select all. Recursively find all the data and values empty their values.

Just make sure there is no toolbar url in data field. If present remove the url.
